New updates, new media coverage, new users – this week’s been a continuous stream of awesome developments. We’ll be posting here at the new CoTweet blog a lot more frequently, so grab the RSS and enjoy the ride.
Thanks so much to everyone who’s now following us as the result of some great coverage earlier this week at by David Petherick on TheNextWeb. The post is entitled “CoTweet: The Corporate Twitter Just Landed.” David took the time to really understand us and wrote a fabulous piece – thanks David! As a result, we’ve been inundated with beta requests over the last two days, which is the best problem one can hope to ever have doing this sort of thing. We’re letting a few new users a day as we work feverishly to complete a more scalable updates engine that’ll be in place very shortly. Thanks for your patience, and trust me – we can’t wait to be able to open the floodgates.
So, tonight’s update. One of the innovative features CoTweet offers is called OnDuty, a system that keeps your team informed by sending email updates when new @replies and direct messages come in. Unless you’re glued to your Twitter client all day, it’s easy to lose track of messages and the value that immediate responsiveness brings to your brand.

- CoTweet’s new Channel Menu
OnDuty keeps you and your team in the loop. It has helped me keep an eye on @cotweet developments and allowed me to jump in on things I wanted to address, all while being busier than ever working on this project. With tonight’s update, we’ve introduced the ability to change not only your own OnDuty status, but also that of your team members as part of a new channel menu. Users are able to decide what happens when they’re set to “on” via their settings. Right now, we’re offering email but are looking to expand to other notification tools soon.
We’re pushing hard to make the ways that you can interact with data in CoTweet as consistent as possible. We’ve added DM and @reply buttons from the sidebar, allowing you to send messages without jumping through hoops.
We’ve also made some huge performance optimizations on the main CoTweet view. Thanks to some database indexing magic, we’ve been able to cut some query times by as much as 70%. A significant part of this limited beta time is using the stress of controlled growth to find our slow spots and adjust things accordingly.
A special thanks to beta testers for your fantastic feedback – we’re here to build the tool that works for you and grateful for the time you’ve already invested into this product. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
